The Halloween Toad and the Wombat are both Rare star animals with a 4-hour activity, a 24-hour sleep and a 1600 coin cost. From level 1 to 7 they are identical: 350 to 520 heart gems and 40 to 59 tournament stars per activity, level for level, which also gives them the same tournament value of about 27 coins per star. The differences sit outside that table. The Wombat runs 6 activities before its 24-hour sleep against 4 for the toad, so a maxed Wombat collects more often in a day. The Wombat also keeps growing to level 10, where it reaches 561 heart gems and 66 stars per activity, three levels the toad never gets. Collected on time and counting the sleep, a level 7 toad brings in about 142 stars and 1,250 heart gems a day, against 198 stars and 1,680 heart gems for a level 10 Wombat. The last difference is availability. The Wombat only hatches from the premium Yellow Egg, while the toad hatches from the token-based Halloween Egg during the Halloween event, which takes 4,000 Halloween Toad Tokens and ends around November 1. In practice, the toad is the free way to get these exact numbers, and the Wombat is the stronger pet once it passes level 7.
