The Nest Egg Method is a Wordscapes Wildlife strategy I named for new and casual players who want to max out the animals that bring the rewards they care about: instead of hatching every egg in the rotation, you save your heart gems and spend them all on one egg color. Every duplicate then lands on the few animals you actually use, so they level up about six times faster.
So, here the goal is one egg, and the right egg depends on your preferres target: the White Egg and its Giraffe if you live for tournaments, the Purple Egg if you chase brilliance, the Yellow Egg, my own pick, if you want a bit of everything. Players have shared the basic tip, stick to one color and wait for it to come back, since at least 2023. What changed is the game: Level 10 arrived in 2026.
This guide turns that old tip into a method with the numbers behind every choice.
If you want every animal in your collection, it is not for you, just hatch everything 🙂

Why one egg beats hatching every egg
Four facts do all the work.
Only one animal works at a time. The animal in your Activity slot earns the rewards while the rest of your collection waits. What counts is how strong your best animal is for each reward, not how many animals you own.
Every egg color costs the same. Do the only real choice you make is where your heart gems go.
Duplicates level animals up, and nothing is wasted. One hatch can push an animal up several levels at once, and duplicates of an animal already at its max level come back as heart gems.
The six regular eggs rotate in a fixed order, then start again at Red. Buy whatever is on offer and your duplicates get split six ways.
Red
Green
White
Purple
Blue
Yellow
| Your heart gems | Hatch what is on offer | Nest Egg Method |
|---|---|---|
| Egg colors they buy | 6 | 1 |
| Animals sharing the duplicates | 54 | 9 |
| Share landing on your egg’s animals ( on Target ) | about 1 in 6 | all of them |
That last row is the whole method: for the same heart gems, the animals you care about get about six times more duplicates.
New players get a second payoff from the same choice. An egg color only offers the Shiny Egg once you have unlocked all of its animals, and the Shiny Egg gives 3 animals for 550 heart gems where the regular egg gives 1 for 850: about 183 heart gems per animal instead of 850. Put everything into one color and you complete it, and open its Shiny Egg, about six times sooner than if you spread your heart gems over all six. For the Yellow Egg and its nine animals, that takes about 63 regular eggs on average, around 54,000 heart gems, most of it spent waiting for Hippo.
Which egg to save for: pick by goal
The method works with any egg. What changes is the animal you want to upgrade, so start from what you play for. Two numbers count for each animal: what it earns in a day when every activity is collected on time, and what is left when you open the game about three times a day, the three check-in rule explained further down.
| Your goal | Egg to save for | Key animal | Per day, on time | Per day, three check-ins |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tournamentsstars | 315 | 315 | ||
| Brilliance | 655 | 655 | ||
| Portrait eventsbinoculars | 185 | 185 | ||
| Butterfly eventscocoons | 161 | 161 | ||
| Beesa few check-ins a day | 85 | 85 | ||
| Beescollected all day | 185 | 60 | ||
| Heart gemsa few check-ins a day | 2,798 | 2,798 | ||
| A bit of everything | Number one for both collection events, and for heart gems with three check-ins | |||
Each animal at its max level: level 7 in the White Egg, level 10 in the other five. Porcupine shares its number one spot with the Red Egg’s Kookaburra.
Tournaments: the White Egg and Giraffe
Giraffe is the animal tournament players love, and the numbers agree with them: it is the best star animal you can hatch however you count it. At level 7, Giraffe brings 184 stars per activity, about 315 a day, and because its activities last 8 hours it keeps every one of them with three check-ins. The next star animal, the Blue Egg’s Capybara, stops at about 271.
Giraffe is not alone in that egg. Meerkat, an Uncommon, brings about 152 stars a day while you wait for Giraffe, and Lynx is the best bee animal you can hatch for three check-ins, about 85 bees a day. Both run 8-hour activities. Panther adds about 211 stars a day if you can collect every hour.
Two things to know before you choose it. Giraffe is the White Egg’s Epic, the rarest kind of hatch, so plan on Meerkat and treat Giraffe as the prize. And White is the only egg still capped at level 7, which cuts both ways: its animals stop growing earlier, but maxing them takes far fewer duplicates, 58 for Giraffe where an Epic that goes to level 10 needs 408. White is also the weak egg for collection events: its only binocular animal, Camel, brings about 85 a day on time, and its best cocoon animal, Kiwi, about 87. Every stat is on the White Egg animals page if you want to check the nine animals one by one.
A bit of everything: the Yellow Egg
No single goal? Save for Yellow, my own pick. It goes to level 10, and it is the egg that holds a number one animal for both collection events: Hippo is the best binocular animal you can hatch (Portrait events), and Porcupine shares the top cocoon spot with the Red Egg’s Kookaburra (Butterfly events), just ahead of Macaw from the same egg. Zebra and Tiger are the third best bee animal and the fourth best star animal you can hatch, and Hippo is also the best heart gem animal for three check-ins.
| Animal | Rarity | Reward | Activity | Per activity | Per day, on time |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 30 min | 12 | 222 | ||
| Common | 8 h | 34 | 78 | ||
| Common | 8 h | 28 | 65 | ||
| Uncommon | 45 min | 6 | 107 | ||
| Uncommon | 45 min | 15 | 160 | ||
| Rare | 1 h | 24 | 230 | ||
| Rare | 8 h | 74 | 161 | ||
| Rare | 4 h | 66 | 198 | ||
| Epic | 8 h | 108 | 185 |
Level 10 values. “On time” means every activity is collected as soon as it ends. The full list is on the Yellow Egg animals page with every stat at every level if you go to each animal detail.
One honest warning: Hippo is an Epic, 2% of every Yellow Egg, the rarest hatch of all. Count on it as a bonus, not as the plan. The animals you will hatch most are the Commons, and the Yellow Egg is the only egg where two of the three Commons, Tamarin and Moose, run 8-hour activities. Add Porcupine, Wombat and Hippo, and about half of every Yellow draw (48%) lands on an animal that keeps all its rewards when you only check in three times a day.
Brilliance: the Purple Egg
If brilliance is what you chase, so you are one from rare people who do it ( like me lol ), the Purple Egg is your nest egg. Gouldian Finch is the best brilliance animal you can hatch, whichever way you collect: 300 brilliance per activity at level 10, about 655 a day, all of it kept with three check-ins. It is a Rare, not an Epic, and it goes to level 10. Harpy Eagle adds about 444 brilliance a day if you can collect every 45 minutes. Purple holds no other number one, so pick it for brilliance and nothing else.
What Red, Blue and Green are good for
None of the three is my first choice for a casual player, but each one has a real argument.
- Red: Kookaburra ties Porcupine for the cocoon lead, about 161 a day, and Skunk is the one animal that gives heart gems and nothing else, about 2,601 a day. But its only star animal is Wolf, a 30-minute Common, and only one of its three Commons runs 8-hour activities.
- Blue: the egg for players who collect all day. Anteater is the top bee animal on time, about 185 bees a day, but 60 with three check-ins. Capybara is the second best star animal you can hatch, about 271 a day on 8-hour activities, and unlike Giraffe it goes to level 10. Its only cocoon animal ranks 10th of 11.
- Green: Sloth is the second best binocular animal you can hatch, about 166 a day, and Kangaroo keeps all of its 468 brilliance a day with three check-ins. Green has no bee animal at all.
How to do the Nest Egg Method
- Pick your egg. Start from the goal table above: White for tournaments, Purple for brilliance, Yellow for a bit of everything.
- Find where the rotation is. Tap the egg your game offers today on the Wordscapes egg rotation tracker and type the countdown shown under the egg icon: it tells you when and which next egg arrives, you will see also how many eggs stand between you and yours.
- Save while the other five eggs are on offer. Skip them, even with a big stack of heart gems.
- Set up a Level-Up Swap before you hatch. Put your best animal for the live event in the Activity slot. If the hatch levels up a different animal, press Swap on the level-up screen and the active animal’s reward pays out instantly. All your level-ups now happen on hatch day, so that is the day the swap pays.
- Hatch. Until every animal of your egg is in your collection, buy the same egg.
- Repeat each time your egg comes back. Same routine, same egg.
- Move on when your animals are maxed. Extra duplicates of a max-level animal come back as heart gems, so once the animals you use are maxed, level 7 in the White Egg and level 10 everywhere else, go back to the goal table and point your nest egg at your next goal.
Casual players: the three check-in rule
A finished activity waits for you to collect it. So if you open Wordscapes about three times a day, an animal can finish about three activities a day for you, no more. An 8-hour animal never finishes more than about 2.3 a day once its sleep is counted, so it loses nothing. Kingfisher, a 30-minute animal, could finish about 18; you will collect 3.
Look at the cocoon animals. Collected on time, Macaw and Porcupine are neck and neck, 160 and 161 cocoons a day. With three check-ins, Porcupine still brings 161 and Macaw 45.
Every egg splits the same way. Giraffe, Meerkat and Lynx in the White Egg, Gouldian Finch in the Purple Egg, Capybara in the Blue Egg and Sloth in the Green Egg keep everything, while Anteater drops from about 185 bees a day to 60 and the Green Egg’s Leopard from about 246 stars to 60.
The rankings flip the same way. Among the 54 animals you can hatch, Moose climbs from 9th to 5th for binoculars and Tamarin from joint 13th to joint 6th for stars, while Macaw drops from joint 3rd to joint 7th for cocoons and Zebra from 3rd to 6th for bees.
The share you keep does not change with level: activity length, activities before sleep and sleep length are the same at every level, so the rule works from your very first hatch.
Event pets follow the rule too, and they never touch your nest egg, because they hatch from event tokens, not heart gems. The Halloween Toad, live until around November 1, 2026, does 4 activities of 4 hours before a 24-hour sleep, so at level 7 it keeps all of its 142 stars a day with three check-ins: almost twice what Tamarin brings. Its first seven levels even copy those of Wombat, the Yellow star animal that keeps its stars the same way, 198 a day at level 10. If you hatched Jimothy in September, he keeps his 54 bees a day too, three times what Zebra gives you with three check-ins.
Fill the nest faster: farm heart gems
Every activity pays heart gems on top of its bonus reward, whatever the animal. That gives you a shortcut: when no tournament or event matters to you, forget the bonus rewards and leave in the Activity slot the one animal you own that earns the most heart gems a day. Your egg comes back just as often, but you meet it with a fuller nest.
| Animal | Egg | Activity | Heart gems a day, three check-ins | Heart gems a day, on time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yellow | 8 h | 2,798 | 2,798 | |
| Red | 4 h | 2,601 | 2,601 | |
| Red | 8 h | 2,487 | 2,487 | |
| Purple | 8 h | 2,444 | 2,444 | |
| Yellow | 8 h | 2,439 | 2,439 | |
| Blue | 8 h | 2,439 | 2,439 | |
| Green | 8 h | 2,439 | 2,439 | |
| White | 8 h | 2,386 | 2,386 | |
| Blue | 2 h | 1,992 | 6,129 | |
| Yellow | 45 min | 513 | 3,040 |
Each animal at its max level: level 7 for Giraffe, level 10 for the others.
With three check-ins, Hippo is the best heart gem animal you can hatch, and the names right behind it are the 8-hour animals you are already saving for: Gouldian Finch, Porcupine and Giraffe farm almost as well. Most of the time your goal animal is also your farmer, so you lose very little by never swapping. The specialist is the Red Egg’s Skunk, which has no bonus reward at all, only heart gems.
New player with only Commons? An 8-hour Common such as Tamarin or Moose earns 1,302 heart gems a day at level 10 with three check-ins, more than twice what Zebra keeps. And if you can collect all day, the list turns over: the Blue Egg’s Anteater runs 10 activities of 2 hours before a 6-hour sleep, about 6,129 heart gems a day when every one is collected on time, more than twice Hippo, and Zebra makes 3,040 a day if you collect every 45 minutes.
The price is simple: while you farm, the only bonus you earn is the one your farmer gives. When a tournament or a collection event you care about starts, put your event animal back in the slot. The table is at max level, so between two animals you own at lower levels, compare what each one pays per activity today.
One last tip for filling the nest: the heart gems you earn from levels drop the more levels you finish in a day and reset every day, so a few levels daily earn more per level than one long session a week.
What it costs: the Yellow Egg odds
PeopleFun does not publish the odds. The game’s own odds for every Yellow Egg, regular or Shiny, are 54% Common, 29% Uncommon, 15% Rare and 2% Epic, shared equally between the animals of each rarity. Each of the three eggs in an x10 hatch brings 10 copies of one animal, so here is what one animal costs on average, starting from level 1.
| Animals | Chance per egg | To level 7 | To level 10 | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| x10 hatches | Heart gems | x10 hatches | Heart gems | ||
| Kingfisher, Tamarin, MooseCommon | 18% each | 74 | 407,000 | 593 | 3.26 million |
| Zebra, MacawUncommon | 14.5% each | 48 | 266,000 | 416 | 2.29 million |
| Tiger, Porcupine, WombatRare | 5% each | 73 | 403,000 | 540 | 2.97 million |
| HippoEpic | 2% | 100 | 550,000 | 683 | 3.76 million |
Averages, rounded. One x10 hatch costs 5,500 heart gems; the heart gem columns are worked out before the hatches are rounded.
Every x10 hatch feeds all nine animals at once, so you never pay those lines one after the other. On average, 116 x10 hatches, about 640,000 heart gems, bring all nine Yellow animals to level 7, with Hippo most often the last one, and 706 x10 hatches, about 3.9 million heart gems, bring them all to level 10. Luck counts: out of 20,000 simulated players, one in ten had the whole set at level 7 after 87 x10 hatches, and one in ten was still waiting after 155. Duplicates that land on an animal already at level 10 come back as heart gems, so the full level 10 bill ends lower.
Saving for another egg? Every egg has the same build, 3 Commons, 2 Uncommons, 3 Rares and 1 Epic, and an animal of a given rarity needs the same duplicates in every egg. The odds above are the Yellow Egg’s, the only ones I have confirmed, so for another egg read the table by rarity and as an estimate: Gouldian Finch on the Rare line, Giraffe on the Epic line. Giraffe stops at level 7, so on those odds its bill is 58 duplicates, about 100 x10 hatches and 550,000 heart gems, about seven times less than an Epic taken to level 10.
The bill also pays itself back: with three check-ins, a level 10 Hippo earns 2,798 heart gems a day, enough for an x10 hatch every two days on its own.
What the Nest Egg Method will not do
- It will not give you a date. The costs above are averages, and how fast you reach them depends on how many heart gems you earn a day.
- It will not make an Epic common. Hippo is 2% of every Yellow Egg, and Giraffe is the Epic of the White Egg. Build your plan on the animals you hatch along the way and treat the Epic as the prize.
- It will not max a whole egg soon. Level 10 takes 3,200 duplicates for each Common, 1,803 for each Uncommon, 806 for each Rare and 408 for the Epic, and the last level is the steep one: a Common needs 10 duplicates for level 2 but 1,600 for level 10 alone. Aim for strong key animals, not a full crystal collection.
- It is not for collectors. You skip five eggs out of six.
- No egg covers every goal. For casual players, Yellow is weak on bees and brilliance, White on collection events, and Purple has no number one outside brilliance. Event pets and your next egg cover the gaps.
How I got these numbers
Every stat comes from the Wildlife dataset I keep up to date for the Wordscapes Animal Spreadsheet, where you can compare every animal yourself; the duplicates for each level come from the same dataset, the odds are the game’s own odds for the Yellow Egg, and every rule comes from the official Help Center. Rankings compare the 54 animals you can hatch from the six eggs, nine per egg, each at its max level; event pets stay out because they hatch from tokens. The formulas:
- Activities per day = activities before sleep × 24 ÷ (activities before sleep × activity length in hours + sleep length in hours)
- Per day, collected on time = activities per day × reward per activity
- Per day, three check-ins = the smaller of 3 and activities per day, times reward per activity
- Heart gems per day = the same two formulas, with heart gems per activity in place of the reward
- Average x10 hatches to a level = duplicates needed ÷ 10, rounded up, ÷ chance per egg ÷ 3, and heart gems = x10 hatches × 5,500
The whole-set figures come from 20,000 simulated players opening x10 hatches with these odds until every animal reaches the level. If you try the method, leave your x10 hatch results in the comments: which egg, and how many Commons, Uncommons, Rares and Epics you got. With enough reports, we can check the Yellow odds against real hatches and see whether the other eggs follow them.
Nest Egg Method FAQ
What is the Nest Egg Method in Wordscapes?
It is a Wildlife strategy for new and casual players: save your heart gems for one egg color, the one that fits your goal, instead of hatching every egg in the rotation, so every duplicate lands on the animals you actually use and they level up about six times faster.
Which egg should I save my heart gems for?
It depends on your goal. Save for the White Egg if you play for tournaments, because it holds Giraffe, and for the Purple Egg and Gouldian Finch if you chase brilliance. For a bit of everything, save for the Yellow Egg: it goes to level 10, holds a number one animal for both collection events, Hippo for binoculars and Porcupine, tied with the Red Egg’s Kookaburra, for cocoons, and it is the only egg with two 8-hour Commons.
What is the best Wordscapes animal for tournaments?
Giraffe, the White Egg’s Epic: 184 stars per activity at level 7, about 315 a day, all kept with three check-ins because its activities last 8 hours. If you want a star animal that goes to level 10, the Blue Egg’s Capybara brings about 271 a day. The Yellow Egg gives you Tiger, Wombat and Tamarin, which are good star animals but not the best.
How do I unlock the Shiny Egg in Wordscapes?
Unlock all the animals of an egg color, about 63 regular eggs on average for the Yellow Egg and its nine animals. That color then offers the Shiny Egg, 3 animals for 550 heart gems instead of 1 for 850 with the regular egg, and its x10 option, which opens 3 eggs with every reward multiplied by 10 for 5,500 heart gems.
How long does it take to max a Yellow Egg animal?
Counted in x10 hatches, a Common needs about 74 on average to reach level 7 and about 593 to reach level 10; Hippo, the Epic, needs about 100 and 683. At 5,500 heart gems per x10 hatch, that is about 407,000 and 3.26 million heart gems for a Common, and 550,000 and 3.76 million for Hippo.
How long until my egg comes back?
The order of the eggs is fixed, so you always know how many eggs stand between you and yours. The time each egg stays on offer is not fixed: it follows the countdown under the egg icon in your game, and the egg rotation tracker turns that countdown into the arrival time of the next egg.
Which Wordscapes animals are best if I only play a few times a day?
Animals that finish three activities a day or fewer, which in practice means the 8-hour ones, a few 2-hour and 4-hour animals and the last two event pets. Giraffe and Lynx in the White Egg, Gouldian Finch in the Purple Egg, and Hippo, Porcupine, Wombat, Tamarin and Moose in the Yellow Egg keep all their rewards with three check-ins a day, and so does the Halloween Toad.
What is the fastest way to earn heart gems in Wordscapes Wildlife?
When no event matters to you, keep your best heart gem animal in the Activity slot all the time. With three check-ins a day, Hippo leads at 2,798 heart gems a day at level 10, ahead of Skunk at 2,601; collected on time, Anteater reaches about 6,129 a day.
