German Shepherd and Pangolin are both bee animals with identical numbers at every level: 12 to 17 bees and 350 to 560 heart gems per 4-hour activity, for the same 1600 coin cost. At equal level they perform exactly the same, so the real differences are availability and leveling. Pangolin hatches from purple gem eggs any time and maxes at level 7 with 106 duplicates. The German Shepherd only hatches from the token-based Dog Month egg while its event runs, and needs 133 duplicates, but those come from simply playing levels during the event. In practice, use whichever of the two sits at the higher level.
