Leopard or Octopus: what the numbers say
Leopard is an Uncommon star animal and Octopus an Epic one, but Leopard runs 45-minute activities and Octopus 4-hour ones. Leopard does 10 activities before a 12-hour sleep, Octopus 4 before a 24-hour one. Finishing an activity early costs 500 coins with Leopard and 1,800 with Octopus. Per 30 minutes of activity at level 7, Octopus is ahead on tournament stars (12.5 against 9.3), and Leopard is ahead on heart gems (113.3 against 100). Leopard goes on to level 10, where it reaches 188 heart gems and 20 tournament stars per activity, a level Octopus cannot reach. Collected on time and counting the sleep, a level 10 Leopard makes about 246 tournament stars and 2,314 heart gems a day, against 240 and 1,920 for a level 7 Octopus, so per day Leopard comes out ahead on both. That pace means collecting Leopard every 45 minutes until it falls asleep. For tournament value, Leopard costs 35.71 coins per star and Octopus 18, which ranks them 9th and 3rd of the 16 star animals. Leopard hatches from the Green Egg, while Octopus is a token-hatched event pet.
